I brake for snakes!

In the middle of October's glory days, I received word that Marty Peale found a road-killed Milk snake along the Rio Chiquito in Taos, on Oct. 8. This is the place it was found on 10/24. It was probably out "sunning" before going into hibernation.

 It is the first Milk snake that I have seen and possibly the first reported in this area.

The New Mexico milksnake, Lampropeltis triangulum celaenops, is a real beauty.

The next day I stopped for this late sunning Garter snake on the road in Arroyo Hondo, 10/27.
