Black Swifts at Zapata Falls.

I have been trying to see the Black Swifts at Zapata Falls for a couple of years since I heard they nest there, and was finally rewarded by arriving at 6:30 am and seeing about a dozen of them rocketing near the mouth of the canyon. They are incredibly fast and very hard to photograph.

Forest patch patterns.

I love the patterns of the forest patches at tree-line. But when I enhanced the photo I was reminded of the tragedy of forest die-offs. Here the dead & dying trees are seen in the bottom left of the photo.

Snow Goose nesting colony

Snow Goose nesting season in Queen Maude Gulf Bird Sanctuary, Nunavut, Canada

KING EIDERS at Karrak Lake, Nunavut, June 12, 2014.

Looking back, looking forward June 23, 2021.

Its been super hot these last couple of weeks here in Taos so I'm spending a lot more time indoors. The no-see-ums are also really bad now. I found a box labelled Karrak Log and Pix, and found my log and a camera card from my trip to Queen Maude Gulf Bird Sanctuary from 2014. So I've been going through them and re-visiting that wonderfully icy and wide open place, full of unique wildlife. A great escape from the heat and bugs.
